DescriptionDuring the last tsunami warning, were you wishing you were more prepared? We often put off preparing for an emergency until it comes but as June marks the start of hurricane season, now is the time to get ready with the Red Cross. Let’s take this opportunity to make sure our families, neighborhoods and communities are prepared for emergencies of all types. This workshop covers key information specific to Hawaii residents about when and where to evacuate, and clears up the difference between hurricane and tsunami shelters. You’ll be ready with a “go bag” if you need to evacuate your home and a “stay home” kit if the safest place is off the roads and in your house. If disaster strikes, how will you reach or find your family members? Learn how to make an emergency plan that will make sure everyone is safe. You will also learn about the best resources available from the city & county, the state, and the federal government as well as how to stay informed when there is a hurricane or tsunami watch. We’ll also talk about how best to help your neighbors and what are some next steps to take in making your entire neighborhood more prepared. Workshops are free and open to the public. For more information or to schedule a workshop in your community, contact the Live Aloha in Your Neighborhood team at livealoha {at} kanuhawaii.org If you’re interested in going one step further by volunteering to bring the workshop to your community – we’ll train you to do just that at our “Training for Trainers” June 11th at Manoa Innovation Center from 2-3:30pm.
