July 1, 2011 Deadline for Comments and Suggestions on Federal Regulations Affecting Native American Burials and Cultural Items – 43 C.F.R. Part 10

Written comments and suggestions are due to David Tarler of the National NAGPRA Program    at David_Tarler@nps.gov by July 1, 2011 (Friday).

If you missed today’s telephonic consultation or thought of other comments and suggestions after the call, you still have the opportunity to participate in the Department of the Interior, National NAGPRA Program’s discretionary review of all the NAGPRA regulations that are already codified at 43 C.F.R. Part 10 (for a copy, please visit http://www.nps.gov/nagpra/MANDATES/INDEX.HTM), to address two questions:

(1)  Should the rules already published at 43 C.F.R. Part 10 be amended at all?

(2)  If the answer is yes, then how (either generally or specifically) should the regulations be amended?

The comments and suggestions submitted by the July 1st deadline will be responded to in the preamble to the proposed regulations when they are published, thus you will be able to see the comments and suggestions from the three consultations conducted by the National NAGPRA Program with Federal agencies and departmental NAGPRA coordinators, federally recognized tribes, and the public on March 24th, March 25th and May 19th, respectively.

Publication of any proposed rules will be followed by a public comment period before final rules are published.

Please feel free to forward this e-mail to anyone who you believe may be interested.
