‘Good energy’ at meeting for wind project

Gathering focused on specifics of farm rather than noise complaints

April 15, 2011

ULUPALAKUA – A second meeting on the proposed Auwahi Wind Farm was focused more Wednesday night on the particulars of the project on Ulupalakua Ranch land than on complaints about construction noise, which had been heard during a meeting the night before.

The ranch is partnering with Sempra Generation in the $140 million project to build 15 wind turbines makai of Piilani Highway in an uninhabited area between Makena and Kaupo.

The project would employ 150 construction workers for at least 10 months ending in December 2012 and another four or five people permanently, including a biologist to protect flying native species, such as the Hawaiian petrel, said Sempra Commercial Development Director Mitch Dmohowski.
