POSITION TITLE: Development Coordinator
Kupu is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which aims to empower youth to serve their communities through character building, service learning, and environmental stewardship. Kupu aims to train and equip young adults in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Rim with work skills, life skills, and knowledge to help them become successful as individuals and as part of the greater community.  Kupu is staffed by people with a heart to better Hawaii while working as a team with a purpose of doing what is “pono” (or right/correct) for Hawaii and its people. Kupu is a team-focused, vibrant, and synergistic organization whose culture is dynamic and seeks to make a larger impact on Hawaii.

Program Goals

  • Provide training and education to Hawaii’s youth
  • Help to expose youth to conservation  issues and develop an environmental mindset
  • Assist community development through skills training, job and internship placement, and career pathway development

Development Coordinator Position Duties
The Development Coordinator position is a full-time position whose focus will be to help develop outside funding, strategic partnerships, and brand recognition within the community.  Development Coordinator will help to coordinate and execute activities and campaigns. This includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

  • Work with Executive Director and possible outside consultants to develop marketing and funding strategies and resources while promoting the organization’s mission and Kupu programs
  • Provide recommendations on fund development and community development to Executive Director and leadership team
  • Help to develop materials to be used for fund raising and community development purposes
  • Establish and develop positive relationships in the community
  • Create bridge between funders and youth in programs
  • Plan and manage fundraising events
  • Organize public events to further community support
  • Solicit donations and maintain good relationships with donors
  • Promote brand recognition within the community
  • Develop ways that funds can be generated through current operations
  • Manage and lead other staff and/or interns
  • Other duties as needed

Development Coordinator Requirements
The Development Coordinator must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Available full-time Monday through Friday, as well as for possible weekends, evenings, and periodic neighbor island trips
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Strong coordination background
  • Strong research capabilities with the ability to understand local and national funding market
  • Public relations experience
  • Ability to develop presentation and is skilled in the use of PowerPoint or Prezi
  • Fund-raising experience
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office
  • Extremely detail-oriented, organized and strong administrative skills
  • Creative
  • Team player
  • Effective communicator
  • Positive reputation and respect in the community
  • Successful in creating positive relationships in the community
  • Takes initiative

Development Coordinator Preferred Requirements

  • Marketing experience
  • Adept in social media (especially with new technology)
  • Strong research skills
  • Community development experience (3-5 years)
  • Sales and fundraising background (3-5 years)
  • Successful fund raising history
  • Non-profit experience

Compensation and Benefits
Base salary up to $45,000, based on experience.
