WAILUKU – Dayna Ta-keta, a junior at Baldwin High School, earned the crown of the 58th Chrysanthemum Festival sponsored by Maui’s Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans.
Taketa, 15, of Kahului, is the daughter of Russell and Jackie Taketa.
The queen of the event is the candidate who raises the most funds for the sponsor.
Also competing this year were Julia Keakealani Bissen, 16, of Wailuku, daughter of Charmaine and Kenneth Bissen Jr., a junior at St. Anthony Junior Senior High School; Lyssa Kei Nishikawa, 16, of Pukalani, daughter of Nelson and Lois Nishikawa, a junior at Seabury Hall; Beth Onaga, 17, of Wailuku, daughter of Geri and Stephen Onaga, a senior at Kamehameha Schools Maui; and Joni Sanchez Casio, 16, of Pukalani, daughter of Jackee Sanchez, a junior at King Kekaulike High School.
